Wagering requirements explained for Irish players

A wagering requirement is how many times you must stake bonus funds (or bonus plus deposit) before those winnings become withdrawable cash. The headline “35x” is only half the story — the base, game weighting, and caps decide the real cost.

Fields below start with example values (prefilled from the #1 offer on this page: €20 deposit, €20 bonus, 35×) until you change them or use Calculate this offer on a card. Wagering requirements explained for Irish casino players

What a wagering requirement means

Casinos advertise bonus cash and free spins because marketing works. Without a playthrough rule, you could claim, win a little, and leave. Wagering (also called playthrough or turnover) is the multiplier that forces those funds through eligible games first.

It is written as 20x, 35x, 40x, and so on. Three words in T&Cs usually mean the same mechanic — wagering, playthrough, turnover. What changes the difficulty is which euro amount the multiplier hits.

Use the calculator above with the live figures from any welcome or free spins card before you opt in.

Bonus-only vs deposit + bonus

Same “35x” sticker; two very different jobs.

Base Formula €20 deposit + €20 bonus at 35x
Bonus only 35 × bonus €700 to stake
Deposit + bonus 35 × (deposit + bonus) €1,400 to stake

Always find the base in the promo terms — not the homepage banner. Our ranking prefers lower verified multipliers and bonus-only bases when both are published; unknown wagering never shows as 0x (see how we rate).

Cash vs bonus wallet: while playthrough is open, wins often sit in a bonus balance you cannot withdraw. Clearing 100% usually converts eligible funds to cash — subject to max cashout and KYC.

How to calculate playthrough in euros

  1. Read multiplier and base (bonus only vs deposit+bonus).
  2. Multiply.
  3. Divide by game contribution if slots are not 100%.
  4. Note expiry (often 7–30 days) and max bet while active.

Illustrative expected-cost lens (not a promise of results): if you must stake €700 on ~96% RTP slots, house edge of ~4% implies roughly €28 expected cost to clear — before caps and variance. That is why a smaller match with saner WR can beat a 300% banner.

Game weighting

Game contribution and wagering weighting

Game type Typical contribution
Slots Usually 100%
Live roulette / blackjack Often 10–20%, sometimes 0%
RNG tables Often reduced
Video poker / specialty Frequently excluded

If a title is missing from the weighting table, treat it as 0% until support confirms otherwise in writing.

Maximum bet, expiry, and cashout caps

Wagering almost always ships with three friends:

  • Max bet while bonus funds are active (breach → void)
  • Expiry on the bonus and sometimes on each free-spin batch
  • Max cashout / max win from bonus-derived funds

Read all three with the multiplier. A “low WR” offer with a €50 cashout ceiling is still a tiny prize.

Sticky vs non-sticky

Non-sticky: deposit stays as cash; bonus sits beside it. You can usually withdraw the cash (and forfeit the bonus) if you hate the terms mid-clear.

Sticky: deposit is locked into the bonus wallet. Fail or cancel and you can lose deposit and bonus-related wins — the classic “€500 balance becomes €200 after sticky removal” trap.

Prefer non-sticky unless the sticky pack clearly pays you for the lock (more spins, lower WR, higher cap). We surface sticky status on ranked cards when terms allow.

When “no wagering” is genuine

True 0x removes rollover — it does not remove design. Soft replacements we see repeatedly:

  • Spin value €0.10 or less
  • Win caps around €20 (sometimes lower)
  • 24-hour expiry
  • Game-locked to low-volatility slots
  • Quiet deposit-to-unlock steps

Treat 0x as a low-risk sample, not a bankroll plan. For higher upside with clearer maths, filter all bonuses by ≤25x / ≤35x after you understand the base.

Where to use this next

18+ only. Gambling can be addictive — play responsibly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw before completing wagering?

Usually no. Most casinos lock bonus-derived funds until playthrough hits 100%. Withdrawing early typically forfeits the remaining bonus and related wins.

Do free-spin winnings have wagering?

Often yes. Spin wins usually land as bonus money with their own multiplier, max cashout, and expiry — separate from any deposit match on the same package.

What happens if I exceed the maximum bet while wagering?

Many operators void the bonus and related wins for max-bet breaches. Treat the published cap (often around €5 per spin/hand) as a hard limit, not a suggestion.

Is “0x” or “no wagering” always better than 35x?

Not automatically. Genuine 0x offers are usually tiny, game-locked, and win-capped. A clean 20x–25x bonus-only match can be better expected value if you intend to play through anyway — run the euro maths first.
